What is Hiking?

Hiking is about slowing down and taking one step at a time. It’s about soaking in the views, listening to the sounds of nature, and immersing yourself in the outdoors. A hike can be a simple half-mile stroll on a local trail, or it can be a tough 20-mile day on a thru-hike.

For some, hiking is a way to unwind and relax. For others, it’s the beginning of a fitness journey, a way to lose weight and get in the best shape of your life. It can be part of a weekly morning routine or an all-day adventure.

The joy of hiking is something most people can experience. Some will hate it. Some will love it. But there’s something out there for everyone willing to take that first step.

What Hiking Isn’t

Hiking isn’t about speed or distance. It’s not about climbing the biggest mountain or going farther than the next person. You don’t need expensive gear, perfect weather, or a detailed plan. There’s no finish line, no scoreboard, and no wrong way to do it.

It’s not just for athletes or outdoor pros. You don’t need to look a certain way or be in top shape. Hiking isn’t about pushing past your limits unless you want it to be. It’s not something you have to train for. It’s simply walking with purpose, enjoying the outdoors, and doing it your way—whether that’s a ten-minute walk in the woods or a full-day adventure.
